What the students of new specialisations are going to learn and what are they employment perspectives after graduation?
SOCIOLOGISTS OF CULTURE not only are prepared to work in various public and private cultural institutions (ranging from theatres to tourist agencies) but also gain knowledge enabling them to plan and organise cultural events. These graduates will work in the institutions researching cultural needs and activities of diverse social groups and in the foundations working in the fields of culture or education and others with a special focus on the institutions of European Union.
SOCIAL WORK is an interdisciplinary specialisation related to sociology, psychology and pedagogy and their branches – sociology of work and unemployment, sociology of social issues, employment pedagogy and senility pedagogy, developmental psychology or social psychology. Another important side of this specialisation are the basics of law in the curriculum, particularly family law, employment law and civil law. Students will learn how to spot, diagnose and interpret social issues, they will get to know legal and financial tools of social policy. Social work experts will be employed by social work centres and penitentiaries where they will provide help for the prisoners completing their sentences. They will be employed by institutions combating drug addiction and work as experts for NGOs fighting social pathologies.
MARKET AND PUBLIC OPINION RESEARCH students will study various techniques of quality and quantity research as well as empirical research methodology. They will also learn how to adjust research methods to the problems analysed, use ready-made measurement instruments and create them on their own. They will learn more of statistical procedures facilitating complex analysis of the data collected and Statistica and SPSS packages. The graduates will be employed by market or public opinion research agencies or marketing and research branches of other companies. They may also work as professionals in planning and research implementation, statistical processing and interpretation of results.
SOCIAL POLITICS is an interdisciplinary specialisation based on social psychology, sociology and legislation. Students will learn how to spot, diagnose and interpret social issues like symptoms of social disorganisation, marginalisation, exclusion or social anomaly. They will get to know the sources of funding of social assistance activities or prevention of dysfunctional behaviour. They will also learn to do diagnostic and community interviews. They will be employed by social service sector, the institutions helping disadvantaged social groups, education, healthcare and administration.
Market and Public Opinion Research are offered in Sociology BA and MA studies, Social Work in BA studies only and Sociology of Culture in MA studies only. Among the lecturers are professors Janusz Goćkowski, Stanisław Kłopot, Jacek Kurzępa and Wojciech Łukowski.

New sociological specialisations in SWPS
Market and Public Opinion Research, Sociology of Culture, Social Work and Social Politics are the new specialisations available in Wrocław branch of the Warsaw School of Social Sciences (SWPS) and Humanities in academic year 2010/2011.
The curriculum of four new specialisations has been established by the university’s Institute of Sociology run by prof. Jacek Kurzępa, sociology of youth expert highly regarded in Wrocław, the founder of Lower Silesian Year of Combating Youth Prostitution, the FALOCHRON (the breakwater) project purporting to bring together the city’s youth policies (2007/2009) and the creator of youth drug addiction monitoring system in numerous communes and cities of West Poland.What the students of new specialisations are going to learn and what are they employment perspectives after graduation?
