The Magnolia of Wrocław – final ceremony

Fifteen winners of ‘The Magnolia of Wrocław’ received their prizes for best Master’s thesis in beautiful surroundings of the Botanical Garden in Wrocław. City councillors, rectors of the city’s universities and Municipality representatives took part in the ceremony.

Students of university studies in WrocÅ‚aw who wrote their Master’s dissertation on environment protection in general and expressed some curious ideas on territorial planning of green areas in WrocÅ‚aw were eligible to take part in the contest. Mayor’s adviser, prof. Tadeusz Luty admitted that all dissertations were very good.

‘ I feel all the winners are good enough to launch their own challenging companies right now and work for the city’, prof. Luty said.

‘ It should be noted that extremely important issues like fighting mosquitoes, bicycle infrastructure or rainwater management appeared in the dissertations. I’m also glad that some winners graduated from art universities’, pointed out Jacek Ossowski, the President of the City Council.

‘ Now, the city will propose to the universities some topics that are vital for territorial authorities. This is going to be the next level of our long and, hopefully, successful co-operation’, added Mr Ossowski.

Fifteen best students received their prizes from the President of the City Council. The best Master’s thesis concerning the influence of cemeteries on the quality of groundwater was written by Maryna Adamska. Renata Wites from the Academy of Fine Arts and Zuzanna Róg from the WrocÅ‚aw University of Technology were awarded the first prize (ex aequo) for design and planning thesis. Maria PleÅ›niak from the WrocÅ‚aw University of Life and Environmental Sciences won in the category of technology and engineering while Elżbieta Pachuta from the University School of Physical Education wrote the best dissertation on social aspects of environment protection and healthcare. Monika Rzepecka from the WrocÅ‚aw University of Technology received the award in economy. Prof. Tadeusz Luty handed special appreciation letters to the promoters of the winning dissertations.
